Sequential Coasters in Eastern Black Walnut.

The Black Walnut for this series was sourced from a local sawyer in Cockeysville, Maryland from trees that were storm felled or culled from dead trees on the sawyers' property. After felling, the tree was bucked into logs that were milled flat sawn and air dried for two months before being kiln-dried to a moisture content of 8%. The boards were then stabilized in an open-air barn before coming to our workshop where the wood was allowed to restabilize to the working environment for five months before being used to make these coasters.

This set of Black Walnut Coasters was cut from rift sawn walnut and features long, dream-like grain. Rift sawn is the style highly sought after by many woodworkers and furniture makers. And as each set of coasters is made individually, each are unique and no two sets are alike. Therefore, only one set is being offered.

The coasters come in a matched set of four and are roughly 100mm x 100mm (4" square) and about 10mm thick. The coasters are handmade and hand finished using a mixture of polymerized tung oil and beeswax. A reapplication of finish is ideal twice a year, depending on your use.
