This is our first time sourcing coffee from one of Costa Rica's newer coffee growing regions. Known as Chirripó, elevations here push upwards of 2000 meters, making it one of, if not the highest growing regions in all of Central America. With a little care in growing and processing, one would expect to find something nice at this altitude, and we were not disappointed.

After spending most of our trip to Costa Rica visiting our producers, this coffee landed on our cupping table and was just beautiful. Unfortunately, with a five hour drive to the farm and another five hours to get back to San Jose, I was just out of time to visit El Salitre. However, from what I have been told, Johnny brings a tremendous amount of passion and energy to his coffees, with the farm itself being an example of a healthy and productive farm. I'm looking forward to returning to Costa Rica and making the trek out to Chirripó in 2017.

In the shop, we offer this coffee brewed in a Chemex, producing a juicy, round, mediun-bodied cup with berry fruit tones, champagne-like acidity and a clean, smooth finish.
